Dibir Haor (Red Water Lily Beel)

Sylhet · Rivers and haors

What you can see and do

Dibir Haor at Jaintiapur joins four beels, Dibi, Yam, Horofkata and Kendri, at the foot of the Meghalaya hills, and in early winter they fill with red water lilies. The flowers open fully for a while after sunrise, when small boats take you among them. They close as the day warms, so arrive very early.

How to get there

Take a Jaflong-bound bus or CNG from Sylhet city to Jaintiapur bazar, about 1.5 hours, then an auto-rickshaw a few minutes to the beel.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
