What you can see and do

Ratargul is in Gowainghat upazila, on the Goyain river. It is one of the country's few freshwater swamp forests. Hijal, koroch and barun trees grow here. In the monsoon their bases lie several feet under water. You can then drift silently between the trees in a small dinghy. Birds, snakes and monkeys live here, so keep quiet and leave nothing behind.

How to get there

Take a CNG from Ambarkhana in Sylhet city. Motorghat or Chowrangi Ghat is about 26 km away; from there you enter the forest by dinghy.

Safety notes

Check the entry rules and permits with the forest department or local authority first; do not go deep without a guide.
