What you can see and do

Saint Martin's is an island in the Bay of Bengal, south of Teknaf. It is the only coral island the country has. People of the area call it Narikel Jinjira. The main draws are the clear blue water and the rows of coconut palms. Chhera Dwip at the southern end is off limits to tourists to protect its coral. In the last two seasons (2024-25 and 2025-26) tourists were allowed only from November to January, with overnight stays only in December and January and at most 2,000 visitors a day; from February to October the island was closed to tourists. Carrying polythene is banned. The government issues fresh instructions ahead of every season. Find out the rules in force, and only then set out.

How to get there

In the last season (2025-26) tourist ships left only from the Nuniarchhara BIWTA jetty in Cox's Bazar town, not from Teknaf; the sea crossing takes about six to seven hours each way. Tickets had to be bought online through a portal recognised by the Bangladesh Tourism Board and came with a QR-coded travel pass. The jetty and rules can change from season to season, so confirm before you set out.

Safety notes

Confirm the boat times and your way back first; services stop in bad weather.
