What you can see and do

Katka, in the Sundarbans East Wildlife Sanctuary, is the best-known place to stay overnight on a boat and watch wildlife. Spotted deer roam the meadows in herds. Climb the watchtower to look out over them. A trail through the forest brings you to Jamtola beach, on the edge of the Bay of Bengal.

How to get there

From Bagerhat go to Mongla first. There you join a tour vessel, for which you need a Forest Department permit; trips usually last two to three days.

Safety notes

Check the entry rules and permits with the forest department or local authority first; do not go deep without a guide.
