What you can see and do

Spanning Moulvibazar and Sylhet districts, Hakaluki is Bangladesh?s largest haor and a wetland of international Ramsar importance. In the monsoon, beels join into one broad expanse of water; when levels fall in winter, migratory birds make it a draw for birdwatchers. Boat trips, fishing villages and seasonal wetland scenery define a visit.

How to get there

From Moulvibazar town, travel via Barlekha or Kulaura to a local ghat and hire a boat to explore parts of the haor. Boat routes depend on water and weather; take local advice and return in daylight.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
