Gandhi Ashram and Mukti Sangram Museum

Jamalpur · History and heritage

What you can see and do

The ashram began in 1934 with spinning at the charkha and the practice of rural self-reliance, taking Mahatma Gandhi's ideals as its guide. It stands in Kapasatia village, Melandah upazila. Beside it today is the Mukti Sangram Museum, with documents and photos from the anti-British movement to the Liberation War. The quiet village setting is a bonus.

How to get there

Melandah is about 15 km north-west of Jamalpur town; from there take an auto-rickshaw to Kapasatia village.

Safety notes

Do not climb on old walls or ruins or write on them; check the opening hours and closing days first.
