What you can see and do

Debotakhum in Rowangchhari upazila is a pool of deep, calm water. It is narrow, and sheer walls of rock rise on either side. As you go further in by bamboo raft you notice that little sunlight reaches here, so everything around feels cool and hushed. Since October 2022 tourist travel to Rowangchhari has been suspended and resumed several times for security reasons, and the pool is also closed for a while after heavy rain or flash floods. Before leaving, ask the Rowangchhari upazila administration whether the trip is possible at present.

How to get there

Leave Bandarban town by jeep, pass Rowangchhari and get down at Kochhoptoli Bazar; you have to register your name on the way. From there, walk about five kilometres through Shilbandha Para with a registered guide. Life jackets are required on the raft or boat.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
