What you can see and do

The Chandranath temple is an old Hindu pilgrimage site. It stands on top of Chandranath Hill at Sitakunda, a little over 1,000 feet up. After a steep climb by stairs and forest path you see the hill range on one side and the Bay of Bengal on the other. The Shiva Chaturdashi fair brings pilgrims here in very large numbers. It is held in Falgun.

How to get there

Take a Dhaka-bound bus from Chattogram to Sitakunda bazar. A CNG takes you on to the base of the hill. The climb is 1.5 to 2 hours.

Safety notes

Hill paths turn slippery in the rains and landslides are possible; be down before dusk and take a local guide where needed.
