What you can see and do

In the commercial district of Paltan, Baitul Mukarram is Bangladesh?s National Mosque. Built in the 1960s, its design uses a cube inspired by the Kaaba instead of the dome common to many traditional mosques. Worshippers gather at prayer times; visitors should dress modestly and keep clear of prayer areas.

How to get there

The mosque is reachable on foot, by bus or rickshaw from Gulistan, Paltan and Motijheel. Expect crowds and traffic around Friday and major prayers.

Safety notes

Dress modestly at a place of worship, keep quiet during prayers and ask before taking photographs.
