What you can see and do

Shalban Vihara at Mainamati is an ancient Buddhist monastery. It was built under the Deva dynasty's King Bhavadeva. That was in the 7th to 8th century. Its square courtyard has 115 monks' cells on four sides. In the middle the base of the central shrine still shows clearly. Sculptures and coins found in the excavations are in the Mainamati Museum adjoining it. So are the terracotta plaques.

Start from Kandirpar in Cumilla town and take a CNG auto-rickshaw. Kotbari is roughly 8 km away, about half an hour.
