What you can see and do

Upstream, the Someshwari lies in Meghalaya; it arrives from the Garo Hills there. It then runs close past Durgapur. In the dry season sand and pebbles show through its clear, shallow water, with a line of bluish hills in the distance. Crossing by boat, walking the sandbars and watching people collect coal and stones from the water are all part of a visit.

How to get there

An hour and a half to two hours by bus or CNG auto-rickshaw from Netrokona town to Durgapur; the river ghat is a walk from the bazaar.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
