What you can see and do

Raja Ramnath had the pond cut in the mid-18th century to end his subjects' want of water in a drought. It is huge: about a kilometre from one end to the other. Of all the ponds dug by people in this country, Ramsagar is among the very largest. With its high banks and surrounding woodland it is now a national park, and birds arrive in winter.

How to get there

In Tajpur village, about 8 km south of Dinajpur town; 20 to 25 minutes by auto-rickshaw.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
