What you can see and do

Nafakhum is the spot in Thanchi where the Remakri stream crashes about 25 to 30 feet down from a wide rock ledge. To get there you first take a boat up the Sangu river, then spend a few hours on foot following a stream bed. That journey is a large part of the trip. Since October 2022 the route has been closed and reopened several times for security reasons, and trips are also stopped when the river rises in the monsoon. Before leaving, ask the Thanchi upazila administration whether the trip is possible at present.

How to get there

Take a bus from Bandarban to Thanchi, register your name there and take a registered guide. Next comes a boat via Tindu to Remakri. From there you follow the Remakri stream on foot for two to three hours.

Safety notes

Rocks by a waterfall are slippery and the water can rise suddenly after rain; keep clear of the current.
