Khagrachhari · Hills

What you can see and do

At Perachhara in Khagrachhari Sadar an iron staircase of about 300 steps climbs a sheer hillside; many call it the stairway to heaven. The hill looks like an elephant's head, hence the Tripura name Mayung Kopal. People from the villages beyond use these stairs daily, and the top looks back over Khagrachhari town.

How to get there

Take an auto-rickshaw from Khagrachhari town along the Panchhari road to Jamtoli, cross the Chengi river and walk about 1.5 to 2 hours.

Safety notes

Hill paths turn slippery in the rains and landslides are possible; be down before dusk and take a local guide where needed.
