Gabkhan Channel and Bridge

Jhalokathi · Rivers and haors

What you can see and do

The Gabkhan channel is a man-made waterway dug in the British period to join the Sugandha and Sandhya rivers, and vessels between Dhaka and Khulna or Mongla still use it. From the high Gabkhan Bridge you look down on the straight canal, passing cargo ships and betel nut groves on both banks.

How to get there

About 3 km west of Jhalokathi town on the Pirojpur road; take a rickshaw or easy bike to the Gabkhan Bridge.

Safety notes

Wear a life jacket on a boat; stay off the river when a storm is likely.
