What you can see and do

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in this village, Tungipara. Killed in 1975, he lies buried in the same village. The domed mausoleum is made of white and black marble and red ceramic brick. The complex also holds a museum, a library and the family home. On 15 August in both 2025 and 2026 the gates were kept shut under tight security, and in January 2026 there was a report of entry being refused without the administration's permission, so getting inside is not always certain.

How to get there

Buses and local transport run from Gopalganj town to Tungipara. The journey is about 19 km. Before setting out, check locally whether the mausoleum complex is admitting visitors.

Safety notes

Do not climb on old walls or ruins or write on them; check the opening hours and closing days first.
