Begum Rokeya's Birthplace, Pairaband

Rangpur · History and heritage

What you can see and do

Pairaband, a village in Mithapukur upazila, is where Begum Rokeya, who led the way in women's education, was born in 1880. The broken walls and foundations of her family home are preserved, and a memorial centre has been built beside them. A fair is held here each year on Rokeya Day, 9 December; otherwise the village is quiet.

How to get there

Go about 10 km south of Rangpur city on the Dhaka highway, then take an auto-rickshaw in from the Pairaband turn-off.

Safety notes
