By bus, train, launch and air: fares, how long it takes and where it leaves from.
The government fare is from the transport authority's (BRTA) chart for non-AC buses, per seat. AC fares are set by the companies.

Sayedabad to Patuakhali over the Padma Bridge and through Barishal is 210 km on BRTA's list; the regulated non-AC fare, tolls included, is Tk 772 on a 40-seat bus and Tk 605 on a 51-seat bus. From Gabtoli by the Paturia ferry it is 278 km and Tk 971/762. For travel on 12 Oct 2026 non-AC seats were Tk 750–900 (Sakura 850); AC seats were Tk 1,000–1,500 (Euro Coach 1,000–1,200; Green Line 1,200 economy and 1,500 business). Many of these coaches continue to Kuakata: 280 km, regulated Tk 996/781; in practice non-AC Tk 900–1,050 and Green Line AC Tk 1,400–1,800. The district portal states a road distance of 319 km and fares of Tk 600–700, which do not match BRTA's current list.
There is no direct intercity train between these two districts.
Operating, but with fewer launches since the Padma Bridge. Warning: Patuakhali launch ghat has a severe siltation problem; in March 2026 double-decker launches could not berth at low tide and passengers were ferried to and from mid-river by trawler while dredging continued. 195 km, official deck ceiling about Tk 574; actual fares, times and vessel names could not be confirmed from 2025-26 sources. For Kuakata continue by road from Patuakhali.

The Chandpur ghat list (updated 30 Nov 2025) shows the Kalaiya-bound launch leaving Dhaka at 18:00 and calling at Chandpur. It is running in 2026: on 28 Mar 2026 the Dhaka-bound MV Bandhan-5 left Kalaiya launch ghat at about 16:00 (calling at Nurainpur ghat on the way). 183 km, official deck ceiling about Tk 542. The Dhaka departure time is from the 2025 list, so check it before travelling; the fare actually charged is not known.

The Chandpur ghat list (updated 30 Nov 2025) shows the Rangabali-bound launch leaving Dhaka daily at 19:30 and calling at Chandpur, but no other source confirms it is running in 2026, so it is marked irregular. At 267 km it is one of the longest routes from Dhaka; official deck ceiling about Tk 770. A separate route to Char Montaz is 249 km (about Tk 721). Do not plan around this entry without checking at Sadarghat or the launch counter first.

For Eid-ul-Fitr 2026 MV Bogdadia-12 and MV Shariatpur-3 ran Bosila-Sadarghat-Galachipa, and the route is in the May 2026 official fare chart (235.5 km, deck ceiling about Tk 684). Whether it runs every day outside the festival season could not be confirmed; ask at the ghat first.

The nearest launch ghat to Kuakata. A March 2025 report said launches on this route had been cut; the route is in the May 2026 official fare chart (276.5 km, deck ceiling about Tk 795). How often it runs in 2026 could not be confirmed; do not plan around it without checking at the ghat.

Patuakhali has no airport. From the airport it is another 44.4 km by road.
Biman only, three days a week: in August-October 2026 flights ran on Friday and Sunday mornings (Dhaka 08:30 to Barishal 09:20; return 09:45 to Dhaka 10:30) and Thursday evenings (Dhaka 16:50 to Barishal 17:40; return 18:05 to Dhaka 18:50); the flights of 8 and 9 Oct 2026 are in the schedule too. On some days the time moves by about 20 minutes (on Sunday 4 October it left Dhaka at 08:10). US-Bangla's schedule has no Barishal flights in October-November 2026 and its August 2026 statement does not list Barishal among its domestic destinations; Novoair and Air Astra do not fly here either. Biman's own schedule page could not be opened, so days and times come from two separate flight trackers (Avionio and FlightAware) that agree; days may change with the winter schedule from 25 October, so confirm with Biman before booking.
